Management and the Board have received reports of snakes found in Davenport Rim’s front and backyards. Most recently, a large snake was seen in the Inner Loop greenbelt area. This fits a pattern that has been reported on Next Door for snakes appearing in many subdivisions in Davenport Ranch, since snakes are very active at this time. While many (mostly small) snakes are harmless, in Austin there are four types of venomous snakes. These are the Texas Coral Snake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Southern Copperhead, and the Western Cottonmouth – all are very dangerous. For pictures, see https://www.inaturalist.org/guides/7148 . If you see a snake in the Inner Loop greenbelt, try to take a picture of it and send it to Pioneer management with a description of where it was found (melissa@pioneeraustin.com) so that we can have it removed. If you see one in your backyard, the Board recommends Critter Control (Carter Holdridge, cell 512-903-1664; crittercontrol.com) or Rodney Reid (512-554-6407) for a safe removal. It is recommended that owners not kill snakes, since they play a role in reducing rats and mice and other vermin. Stay safe!
