Beware of Package Thieves
Today (Wednesday, around 12:30 pm) a package was stolen from a DR unit porch, in view of a local repairman working at my home. The thieves were brazen, driving erratically in a white Nissan Murano, and appeared to be following a UPS truck as it delivered packages. Unfortunately our repairman did not obtain a license plate number, and the unit had no porch camera.
Thieves appear to be getting more desperate and brazen, and there are currently no ways to prevent such occurrences. We can as neighbors, however, keep our eyes open as we walk the neighborhood, and be vigilant for all vehicles, including those that might be following delivery trucks. Having a porch camera installed may be helpful, and responding to our doorbells promptly and checking our porches regularly are also a good use of our time. Finally, being good neighbors and being watchful of the front porches of neighbors is an excellent deterrent. Surely, our tenants will have other prevention ideas, and if you are interested, you can share your thoughts online at Nextdoor Davenport Rim Community.
Now may also be an excellent time to make sure our management company, Pioneer (c/o Paul Meisler, copied above), has your latest accurate contact information (phone numbers and email addresses for you and, if renting, those of your tenants). The HOA has rules stating that all units and rentals must have current information in the management database for emergency contacting and for issues such as this one. If the Board had not had the involved unit’s owner contact information today, we would not have been able to let them know that a package was stolen.
When we work together as neighbors and as a neighborhood, everyone wins!
