DAVENPORT RIM STORM DAMAGE CLEANUP AND RENEWAL PLANS

The Board apologizes for the length of this notice. Many neighbors are concerned about their front yards and what to do about the ice-and-cold storm damage.)

Three Board members walked the neighborhood last week and noticed that some owners are working hard at fixing up their front yards after the February storm, while others have done some work, and a few owners have done no work at all. After the Neighborhood Front Yard Policy was adopted in May 2018, owner compliance was 99% by the deadline of September 30, 2018. To maintain the overall beauty of the neighborhood, the Board has decided to implement the Front Yard Policy again after the February storm damage.

The Board has been busy cleaning up the inner loop greenbelt and the Firewise perimeter, and in helping homeowners remove their storm damaged tree limbs and debris through regular curbside pickups, at no cost to owners, and without raising monthly dues. Now is the time for owners to step up their property recovery efforts after the February cold and ice.

Because of problems with hiring landscapers and obtaining plants, the Board is delaying its previous May 1 deadline for the convenience of the owners. Also, please be aware that irrigation is now working (every Tuesday), and that hand-watering is allowed for all of your new plants as well as for your trees, to keep them healthy. Arborists are recommending we give damaged trees until the end of July to see if they will leaf out.

Here are the new neighborhood deadlines for 2021:

June 1 - removal of dead plants, shrubs, and trees from unit limited common areas, defined as front yard and side yards up to the unit’s backyard fence/gate

- the cost of this is the owner’s responsibility, as outlined in the Board’s front yard policy (found under "Associations and Fees", then “documents” at 2800waymaker.com)

- backyards are exempt from this deadline, unless dead materials can be seen from the street or from the inner loop greenbelt

- front yards with soil, mud, or old mulch must be covered with mulch or rocks (not less than 4” in diameter, on average), owner’s choice

October 15 – Board will inspect the regime to determine adherence to the Front Yard Policy, with feedback to owners not in compliance

November 1 - Deadline for all yards to return to compliance with Front Yard Policy, with monthly fines being imposed for non-compliance

Note: The Spring planting period for spring shrubs and bushes ends in Austin sometime in May (depending on heat and rain levels). For owners who wish to plant summer annuals or other plants during the early or late summer, check with a local nursery.

The Fall planting period for winter plants ends sometime after November 1, so all 2021 planting must be completed by that date. Further questions and concerns are of course always welcome by the Board.
