Tree Removal Procedural Update

Neighbors – In consultation with our landscape company, Yellowstone, the Board decided today to begin immediate removal of downed branches and debris caused by the ice storm. The company will use a chipper machine and will systematically begin removal of everything in the roadway and in front yards of all units. This will include any limbs that are in the street, on the ground, and hanging down (easily reachable) over front yards and driveways. Large trees will not be trimmed or removed, unless the team can do it safely (liability issue for the company). Yellowstone will also remove downed limbs and debris in unit back yards that will impede their future ability to trim, blow, etc. during regular service weeks. Large backyard trees that have toppled, even though they may be touching parts of your unit, will remain your responsibility, based upon the recently-HOA approved LCE rule stating that owners are responsible for maintaining their shrubs and trees in back and side yards.

Large “neighborhood traditional” trees (crepe myrtles and lacebark elms) with broken limbs that require specialty tree removal or trimming in your front yards will be attended to by our large tree contractor Bartlett Tree Experts as soon as their schedule permits, at HOA expense. This is a busy company, so we will have to be patient. Other front yard, side yard, and backyard trees (for example, oaks, which need special care due to oak wilt until June 1) are the responsibility of the homeowner.

If your unit has been damaged by a downed tree or limb, owners should check with their home insurance company for possible coverage. There are many vendors available all over town who can remove damaged side and back yard trees. Several that we are aware of provide free estimates and somewhat quick service, although we are not recommending one over another. Here are some that you may wish to begin with:
