HANDY HOLIDAY REMINDERSDAVENPORT RIM

Happy Holidays from your Davenport Rim Neighborhood Association! Here are some useful reminders to make your holiday season brighter.

1. Trash, recycle, and compost bin Slide Days – This is a reminder that for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays, the City of Austin slides its pickup for bins to a day later. To accommodate the holiday, bin emptying is delayed by one day – from Friday to Saturday.

You can also add an app on your phone to set up a trash pickup reminder:

In all cases, bins may be placed curbside the evening before collection and must be off the street no later than 8 pm the evening of the pickup day. Trash bins must be stored in garages. If you will be out of town on the pickup day, we recommend that you ask a neighbor or friend to put your bins into your garage, to avoid a fine from the Association.

Remember: Trash and compost bins are picked up weekly. Recycling bins are picked up every other week. Please place bins 5 feet apart for the convenience of trash truck auto-pickup. If you will be out of town on the pickup day, we recommend that you ask a neighbor or friend to put your bins into your garage, to avoid a fine from the Association.

2. Holiday decorations – Christmas lights are being put up in the neighborhood several weeks before Christmas, and our neighborhood is beginning to look festive! Board rules require that such seasonal celebration decorations be taken down within a reasonable time after the holiday. For example, Christmas decorations should be removed within two weeks after New Year’s Day.

3. Front yard tree pruning – Brightview Landscaping will be pruning the front yard trees of 8-12 units per week, every other week during regular maintenance days from November through January (and February if necessary). They will be trimming all trees in the front and side yards up to the gate or fences on the sides of each unit, and removing dead trees as well. These will be pruned out of order, based upon Brightview’s decision to first prune those trees that are most in need. Thus, it may be that they will prune your trees and your neighbor’s on different weeks. Please do not interfere with the trimming teams or give them specific instructions, since they are trained to trim branches up to 8 feet from the ground, according to industry standards. If you have a special tree that you do not want touched, please contact melissa@pioneeraustin.com to make your request.

4. Holiday parking – During the holidays, compliance with guest parking rules is more important than ever, with families expected for (this year especially) safe family gatherings. Thus we need to reserve our guest parking areas for those folks, especially those with approved parking permits provided according to the rules recently sent out announcing our new parking signage. Please get a permit for your guests if they will be parking for longer than 2 days! Don’t ruin their visit by having their car towed!

Don’t forget to use our new Next door Davenport Rim Community website to talk to your neighbors and wish them a safe and fun holiday season! And stay well!
