With the current weather we have received in the last 14 days, many of the plants and trees are struggling terribly. The homeowners of Davenport HOA should be patient with their plants and shrubs. Yes, many of the plants could be dead from the harsh freeze, snow, and ice. Some plants are in shock, which causes them to “look dead’. The leaves will turn colors and look as if they are dead but in fact they could be ok. I recommend not to cut anything at this time, and revisit the plants/trees in several weeks. Let the temperatures rise and see if the plants respond.

Sadly, many of the perennials and smaller plants more than likely are dead because of the harsh conditions they faced.

Our teams at Brightview are not cutting or pruning plants at this time so we can monitor whether plants will flesh out and bud again over the next 3-4 weeks.

A good rule of thumb is to break off a small piece of the limb connected to the plant or tree. If the plant/tree is still green on the inside even though the leaves are gone, that means there is a chance it will survive. Again, please be patient over the next 2-4 weeks. When warmer weather hits, there will signs that the plant itself is trying to hold on or has died. That should give you an idea about

whether to replace or wait for the plant to take hold. Good luck!
