NEW WASTE STATION FOR DOGS

(If you are not a dog owner or walker, you may ignore this announcement.)

Daily walkers and dog owners in our neighborhood have complained about dog walkers not picking up after their dogs, or leaving “poop bags” on the ground or in other people’s trash cans. In response to some neighbors’ requests, the Board authorized the installation of a Dog Waste Station in the main walking path on the west side of Canonero Drive.

Thanks to the efforts especially of one of your neighbors, the waste station is now operational on Canonero at the far south end of our property, about 100 yards south of our Canonero entrance (see attached photo).

“Poop bags” are available at the station. Please use the waste can at the station upon your return home. Bags will be refilled and the station emptied every two weeks, or as needed.

Note: People are often confused about where to place “poop bags” when they have been used. Our research indicates your trash can (not a neighbor’s) is the proper place. Not compost or recycling bins, and most certainly not in your home toilet, since drain water eventually finds its way into the city water supply.

This is a one-year trial to see if the cost is worth it based upon the amount the station is used. The initial cost for set up and maintenance is minimal, and hopefully will help our neighborhood be a little more
