TRADITIONAL TREES IN THE DAVENPORT RIM NEIGHBORHOOD

As described in a previous post (April 20, 2021), our traditional Davenport Rim trees, as designed and planted by the original developer, are lacebark elms and crepe myrtles. These trees form the canopy of cover over our main road in the rim, are draught and pest resistant, fast growing, and last for 50-100 years. Crepe myrtles and lacebark elms flower during the summer and add color to our neighborhood.

Unfortunately, the February 2021 ice-and-freeze storm in Austin caused our trees, including the traditional trees, to struggle for survival. Arborists and the Board have asked owners to be patient to determine whether traditional trees are still alive, even though a few are clearly dead and will require removal. The Board is asking owners to be patient through July 31 before our arborists make a decision on whether to remove and replace any dead traditional trees.

The Board has decided at its last meeting to remove and replace, at HOA cost, any traditional trees that need removal. We will automatically do this at the discretion of our arborists, and will let owners and tenants know before the day of removal, so that unit residents can move vehicles and allow crews room to work. Some of the older trees are very tall and will have to be removed in pieces, taking the good part of a day to finish removal.

As a reminder, if any owner wishes to remove any trees in a Limited Common Element (LCE) area (essentially front and side yards), an Architectural Control Improvement Request Form must be filled out and approved by the Board. (This requirement does not apply to other LCE components such as mulch, shrubs, bushes, stones or rocks, or grass, as long as the stones comply with HOA requirements, as listed on the neighborhood website 2800waymaker.com ). Traditional trees that die or otherwise require removal must be replaced with the same traditional tree as the one removed, and are the only ones that will be replaced at HOA expense.

Thanks for helping to make Davenport Rim an attractive, safe, and livable community!
